Today is Jacob´s 5/6 birthday!

You know, as in the day he turns 27 years and 10 months old? OK, anyway, we would like to wish an early happy birthday to our wonderful grandmother/grandmother-in-law Nana, whose birthday is April 24. Love you, Nana!

A quick update on the last few days:

We left Lausanne after 4 nights and headed to Bern, where we went on our longest run since the wedding, about 10 miles. (Bern was notable for being significantly flatter than Lausanne.) Kelly´s aunt told us about the bear pits in Bern, so we went on a mission to find them, but apparently the bears are being housed elsewhere while the pits are under construction. We were sort of disappointed not to see the actual bears, but more disappointed at the cruel conditions under which these wild animals are displayed in a small pit in the middle of a city. This came only a couple of days after passing a petting zoo on Lac Leman in Lausanne, where we saw sickly-looking zebras stuck in a dirty pen in a parking lot.

We left Bern for Interlaken, where we spent three nights in a hostel with some study-abroad students, one of whom is a junior at Carolina. Kelly enjoyed discussing the recent national championship with him, while Jacob fumed silently.

From Interlaken, we spent one day hiking in Lauterbrunnen and another hiking in Grindelwald. We also enjoyed running along the lake every morning and pigging out on cornflakes at the all-you-can-eat hostel breakfast.

Now we are in Baden-Baden, Germany on our way to the baths! This afternoon we leave for Vaduz, Liechtenstein.
