Eurotrip 2009, check

We are leaving Europe tonight after ten long, fun, interesting weeks. We have a 14-hour flight to Buenos Aires to look forward to! We last posted about Munich, Berchtesgaden, and Salzburg, so we'll update you on the last few weeks.

After we left Salzburg, we took a train to Mayrhofen, in Austria's Tirol region, where Kelly's father lived in the early seventies. Jay was living up on a mountainside working in a restaurant, but we found a bed and breakfast below the tree line and explored the town. We went for some great runs on the Zillerpromenade, a path that runs all along the river through the towns around Mayrhofen. Mostly, we just walked around looking for people that looked like they might know Jay. Kelly made a lot of friends in Mayrhofen. There are plenty of cows, and we like all of them.

From Mayrhofen, we took a train to Innsbruck and spent an afternoon in town there. Then we took an overnight train to Florence, where we caught a train to Naples, another train to Sorrento, and finally a bus to Positano, on the Amalfi Coast. It was a long, exhausting ride, and we crashed at our hotel and then spent the next two days napping on the beach and eating pasta. We stayed at a great beachside hotel where Kelly's parents had stayed last year, and it was worth the windy, hilly trip. We did both get sick on the bus ride back to Sorrento, where Kelly got into a heated fight with the train-ticket vendor.

From Positano, we made it back to Rome, where we are now. We spent the day at the Colosseum yesterday. When we were in Rome in December of 2006 the Colosseum was closed, and Kelly has been whining about it ever since. Jacob was just glad to check off some more major tourist sites. We also went for a nice run on the grounds at the Villa Borghese, and we ate some gelato by the Trevi Fountain last night. Kelly has gotten to practice some Italian finally, although most of the Italians are eager to speak English. And we have both gotten to drink plenty of espresso.

Anyway, our bags are packed and we are leaving for Argentina in a few hours. We've enjoyed Europe, but we are looking forward to South America.
